Connecting to worlds
You need to be on the Internet
To connect to worlds using Pueblo, you must have a TCP/IP connection to the Internet. This may be a direct connection, a SLIP connection, or a PPP connection.
A good way to check whether you have an active Internet connection is to open
a DOS window and use the
ping command. The following command will test your connection:
ping chaco.com
If you get a reply from Chaco, or you see the message 'Chaco is alive', then
you have a valid and active Internet connection.
If you do have an Internet connection, then Pueblo should work with your
machine. Some worlds may not be accessible because of Internet problems, or because
a world is temporarily (or permanently) down.
Making the connection
There are three ways that you can connect to worlds. If you know the host and
port number for the world, you can use the QuickConnect item in the Worlds menu to connect to that world. This is probably the
fastest way to connect.
If you plan on becoming a regular visitor to a world, you should add that
world to your personal world list. You can do this by either selecting ‘
Add to personal list’ or ‘Edit personal list’ from the Worlds menu. The former will add the currently connected world to
your personal world list, but won’t fill in much information for the world.
The ‘Edit personal list’ item will enable you to fill in information such as your
user name and password, allowing you to automatically log in to the world.
The third and last method of connecting to a world is to select the world from
the Chaco world list. Our world list is continuously maintained, and worlds
are periodically checked to see if they are still active. Our world list also
includes the home page for a world.
The Chaco world list is broken down by category, so that you can browse the
types of worlds that you think are most interesting.
